Looff Carousel

Located next to Lake Ontario in historic Port Dalhousie the Looff Carousel in Lakeside Park is one of the oldest operating carousels in Canada. Carved by Charles Looff in Brooklyn, New York in 1905, and brought to its present location at Lakeside Park in 1921, the carousel is a fine example of early American Craftmanship.

Charles I. D. Looff was a master carver and builder of hand-carved carousels and amusement rides in America. Loof built the first carousel at Coney Island in 1876.

Today, thanks to the efforts of Friends of the Carousel and the Niagara Woodcarvers Association the carousel has been restored to its original grandeur.

The Looff Carousel is open daily from the end of May until September, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Admission to the ride is still 5 cents.
